Powell River Community Response Fund

Overview

First Credit Union, Powell River & District United Way and Powell River Community Foundation, with support from the Regional Social Planner (representing the City of Powell River, qathet Regional District, and Tla’amin Nation) have launched the Community Response Fund (CRF) to support our community through the COVID-19 pandemic. The goal of the CRF is to support local community service charities and not-for-profits meeting the urgent needs of vulnerable individuals and families affected by COVID-19.

Granting Priority Areas

The CRF will support local charities and not-for-profits providing services to vulnerable people affected by the pandemic. Services may include (but not limited to): food security; financial wellness; health and hygiene; home care or personal support services; information and navigation; legal supports; mental health and wellness; shelter; safety; social inclusion and learning, and transportation.

How Grants Are Awarded

The CRF partners have set up an Advisory Committee to assess funding requests and make final awards. The Committee is comprised of two representatives from the Powell River and District United Way, two representatives from the Powell River Community Foundation, and one representative from First Credit Union. The Committee is supported by the Social Planner.

How To Make a Donation

The CRF accepts contributions by government, corporate or non-profit organizations, and individuals. If you’d like to play a part in supporting community through this crisis, you can donate on the Powell River Community Foundation website or by mailing a cheque to: Powell River Community Foundation, PO Box 335, Powell River, BC, V8A 5C2 (please indicate that you would like this contribution to go towards the Community Support Fund.)

At this time there is not a date set for a further intake. The committee will continue to monitor local impacts of COVID-19 and hope to replenish funds available in anticipation for another intake in the near future.
